Hui Tran | Head of Architecture, RIBA, ARB

Hui Tran is our brilliant Head of Architecture here at Headoffice3. His technical prowess in design, and his extensive knowledge of the dos and don’ts of architecture make him a learning tree in the business of construction.

“I started working at Headoffice3 in August 2015,” he says, “My first project was the Juton Paints Flixborough Global Intumescent R&D facility which was completed in 2016.”

The Jotun project set the tone for the kind of ambitious work Hui would go on to lead. The Jotun facility was part of a 9450m² (100,000 sqft) transformation – a new mezzanine level within the existing building to house the new Research & Development Lab for testing intumescent paints for Jotun Europe.

Hui helped shape every element, from the bold reception area and visitor viewing gallery to the double height furnace area, spray booths, conditioning room, lab space, sample room and other associated spaces. The result was a modern, multifunctional workspace for a global company operating in every continent.

“It was our largest project at the time. It was great being able to be so hands-on with it from the get-go.”

Having worked on hundreds of projects during his time at Headoffice3, picking a ‘favourite’ project is a bit of a struggle for him.

“It’s difficult to recall all the projects that have crossed my desk,” he says, “It’s even more difficult to pick out a favourite!”

Hui’s touched on a vast array of project types: from the prestige and heritage challenges with Listed Buildings such as the Tower Building, Liverpool and 28 Great George Street, Leeds (pictured left) – to the technical challenges of Jotun R&D (pictured right) and COVID testing cleaning rooms.

“Having worked mostly on new build projects prior to joining Headoffice3, I now find breathing new life into existing buildings very rewarding.”

Hui sees his line of work as ‘very enjoyable’ and is looking forward to the growing future of Headoffice3.

“We go to work to earn a living. To challenge and grow makes us want to go to work. I was fortunate enough to have joined the company when it was relatively small, and lucky enough to help head up a 10-person design team as part of its growth.

“Working with talented individuals has made working at Headoffice3 very enjoyable. There’s never a dull moment! I hope there are plenty more high times to come.”
