Mercury House | Worcester Park

Mercury House, originally a mid-century office building characterized by its stark concrete façade, underwent a significant transformation during its 2017 conversion into 15 contemporary apartments.  The original exterior, typical of its era, featured a utilitarian design with minimal ornamentation and a predominantly grey palette.

In reimagining the building for residential use, HeadOffice3 introduced a more inviting and modern aesthetic.  The design team selected a warmer, neutral colour palette for the exterior, incorporating soft greys and off-whites to replace the original cold concrete tones.  This choice not only modernized the building’s appearance but also helped it blend more harmoniously with the surrounding residential architecture.

Additionally, the introduction of new window openings and balconies added depth and texture to the façade, breaking up the building’s previously monolithic appearance.  These elements, combined with the updated colour scheme, contributed to a more dynamic and welcoming street presence, aligning the building’s exterior with its new residential function.
