Meridian House | Leeds

This 3-storey (plus basement) former office building in Armley, Leeds, was reimagined by headoffice3 into 27 modern apartments, with a sensitive approach to both design and planning.  The conversion retained much of the building’s original red-brick exterior and blue UPVC windows, maintaining its familiar streetscape presence.  Subtle but impactful changes included removing a visually intrusive rear lean-to with its outdated steel roof, and replacing it with a modern, insulated flat roof system.

Internally, new lightwells were introduced to bring daylight into lower-level units, featuring timber-effect weatherboarding to soften the internal brickwork and add a more domestic character.  To the front façade, the only visible intervention was the addition of glass-screened Juliette balconies, offering both privacy and architectural rhythm.  Former loading bays were carefully bricked up to match the original fabric, reinforcing the building’s residential transformation while preserving its commercial heritage.
